This is a special piece. The stone is called Maw Sit Sit. It is found wherever jade is mined and is becoming very rare. I chose to set is in a sterling silver partial wire and 4 sterling silver wire prongs. The partial bezel was made with heavy gauge rectangular wire. The ends were filed to a taper and then I formed small scrolls on each end. It was then soldered to the solid sterling silver back plate. After making sure of the fit, 4 holes were drilled to accommodate the 4 prongs. They were then soldered into the back plate. I made the custom bail and soldered it to the back of the pendant. The piece was then cleaned and polished. I oxidized the pendant, hand cleaned and tumbled it in a rotary tumbler. After all the cleaning and polishing, the lovely stone was set. Although some jewelry artists would never use glue for setting a stone, I did use a bit of glue to secure the stone. It will never fall out or become loose.
The neckwire was hand forged by me with 12 gauge solid sterling silver wire. It was also oxidized, hand cleaned and tumbled. The attached chain was handcrafted by me also. It is made with sterling silver 16 gauge wire. The clasp is hand forged and one of my signature swirl clasps.
The necklace measures about 16″ long. Although the pendant can be removed from the wire by detaching one of the chains, I would not recommend it. I can lengthen or shorten the chain if desired.
This is absolutely a unique piece. Very special and the stone is so rare. I’m sure you will enjoy it for many years.
